Xoom teardown shows part shared with iPhone, easy 4G upgrade

Digg / Tech Industry News  Fri, 02/25/2011 - 06:48

Motorola's just-launched Xoom has received a customary teardown that has revealed an unintentional link to the iPhone and just how simple the 4G upgrade process wil be. iFixit found that the Android 3.0 tablet, despite being EVDO-only right now, has the same Qualcomm MDM6600 modem as the Verizon iPhone.

The method suggests the Verizon Xoom is the same model as the one shipping worldwide and that other countries will get 14.4Mbps HSPA+ 3G instead.

Qualcomm Kills Mobile Broadcast TV Offering After So Much Money ...

Techdirt  Thu, 10/14/2010 - 02:49

Digg / Tech Industry News  Sun, 10/03/2010 - 10:56

Qualcomm at the Mobilize conference this week quietly said that its mirasol display technology wouldn't be ready this year.

Originally promised for 2010, the unique technology now won't ship until early 2011. Mirasol works based on the same principles as the color of a butterfly's wings, which use interference with refracted light to generate certain colors while blocking others.

The technique promises the extreme low power of an e-paper display but with the expected color and much faster update rates.
