PHP: Master slave load balancing in mysqlnd - how transparent? -...

Planet PHP  Mon, 02/21/2011 - 14:44

How transparent does master slave load balancing support for mysqlnd have to be? Transparency, when driven to the extremes, has three limiting factory: power users not needing it, increase of messages send to MySQL, time intensive SQL monitoring and parsing.

The PECL/mysqlnd_ms proof-of-concept mysqlnd plugin is almost transparent to make it easy to use.

A (simple) PHPCR browser - Liip

Planet PHP  Mon, 12/20/2010 - 15:33

I resurrected another piece of software I did a few (too many) months ago in the "proof of concept" phase of Jackalope, a content repository browser.

I wrote that back then, when we were experimenting with the jackrabbit-davex-client library and integrated that into PHP with Zend's Java Bridge.

I did it with our homegrown PHP framework Okapi and YUI (2.6, IIRC).

Proof of Concept: Binary packed UUIDs as primary keys with Doctr...

Planet PHP  Sun, 08/01/2010 - 15:04

The Problem

For a project I need non-guessable synthetic primary keys. I will use them to construct URIs and these URIs need to be non-guessable.

If I would use the traditional way of doing so, going the down the route of integer primary keys with auto increments, or using a sequence table an attacker could easily increment or decrement the integer to find some similar items.

Next idea was to use UUIDs or GUIDs. These identifiers are globally unique, so this would work for primary keys too.

Data Life of the Future [W/Video]

Digg / Tech Industry News  Sat, 06/05/2010 - 02:50

Every few months, someone takes a stab with a concept video or a proof of concept prototype, providing a glimpse into human-computer interaction and data visualization in a decade or two.

But if people's imaginations are any indication, the future will be filled of data displays and 3-dimensional holographic objects projected into physical space.
