The steepening slide: AMD is firing 11% of its workforce

AMD has announced that it will lay off approximately 1400 workers out of a total of 12,019 in a bid to cut operating expenses.

The company’s decision comes as something of a surprise given its successful Brazos and Llano launches earlier this year and the fairly good Q3 results it reported only a week ago.

The firings will take place at all of AMD’s global offices; the company has no plans to close a particular location.

Version 1.1 is the latest release of Rubinius, a Ruby implementation based around a C++ and LLVM virtual machine but with the bytecode compiler and majority of the core written in Ruby itself.
