The Linux Distillery: "What's the big deal about Linux? Isn't it at heart just a PC-based version of UNIX – the ‘70’s hit operating system which has outlived the predictions of its demise throughout the ‘90’s?

If you’ve come from a Solaris or HP/UX or AIX background isn’t a PC-based UNIX a bit, well, passé?"

ZDNet: "The operating system may be losing its luster. In fact, you could argue that the operating system–Linux, OS X and Windows–will become an application that just happens to boot first.

And hardware vendors are on to the OS's diminishing importance."

Microsoft's team developing the Windows 7 operating system has come out with a new blog called "Engineering Windows 7."

Raiden's Realm: "There is one thing that many people have yet failed to realize, and that is that Linux is a platform, not an OS.

Now as bizarre as that may sound, if you truly think about it, you'll realize that I'm right. It's true that Linux does indeed describe an operating system, but that's only a minor part of the overall experience."

ServerWatch: "None of this is terribly surprising. Today, for many enterprises, Linux is just another operating system choice.
