With the recent Righthaven ruling effectively declaring Righthaven's legal strategy a sham, someone going by the somewhat uncreative name "Plessy Ferguson" sent us the following essay claiming that the ruling is a disaster for open source development.

Technology & Life Integration: "Bork, fork, bork, fork, bork, fork! Sounds like the Swedish Chef on a rampage :) Seriously though, the only rampaging I can see right now are the reactions of both the proprietary companies and open source advocates."

Open-source advocates at South By Southwest make a pretty convincing case that it could be sooner rather than later that the last closed-source Content Management System is developed.

Network World: "A lot of open source advocates like to rage against the machine at Microsoft, but when a former Microsoft Research employee says that Windows 7 won't stop Linux from market domination, that's an opinion to note."

In the seemingly never-ending browser wars, monthly usage statistics are an important metric of just what is really going on on the "battlefield." For Open Source advocates, these statistics are equally if not more important, as they give a reasonably reliable overview of Open Source adoption.

That may explain some of the excitement surrounding February's browser statistics, which seem to show Firefox topping the list.
