downtime

It's the 5th of July. You're at work. Probably bored, and almost certainly hung over from the celebrations yesterday.

If you're like us, you might be idly scanning the internet for something to do in your downtime.

Here we are at year end already, and for me the pace is going to slow down a bit until after the New Year.

I plan to mix up some inside and outside activities, and rack up a long-distance phone bill talking to family.

What's on your downtime to-do list?

Yes, as our trusty readers have noted today, Twitter is out for the count with the famous Fail Whale adorning the site.

Twitter search remains up, although of course there are no new Tweets listed.

LtU will be taken offline for some time tomorrow (Tuesday 9th) due to a data center move. The downtime could range from a few minutes to a few hours.

The exact time this will occur is unknown, but you'll be able to tell because LtU will be unreachable. :-)

It’s not just you: Twitter is suffering downtime this morning, although the outage doesn’t affect all users.

Minutes ago, Twitter updated its Status Blog to acknowledge the problem:

As you’re probably aware, Gmail’s been down for an extended period of time today.

Apache Software Foundation: "On August 27th, starting at about 18:00 UTC an account used for automated backups for the ApacheCon website hosted on a 3rd party hosting provider was used to upload files to minotaur.apache.org.

The account was accessed using SSH key authentication from this host."

How do we know?

Because every time it goes down, our most recent Twitter-related post gets comments of the “speaking of Twitter, is it down right now?” variety.

Twitter is currently experiencing extended downtime: a 30 minute outage that’s one of the longest in recent months.
