Copy Protection Does Not Mean More Sales

We've been pointing out that this isn't true for years now, but the entertainment industry is still so focused on "stopping piracy" rather than "what's the best business model," that they still don't seem to realize that many of their efforts to "stop piracy" actually do nothing to help their bottom line, and often do plenty to hurt their performance.

Verizon Wireless To Pay $90 Million Back To Users For $1.99 Data...

Well, well, well. For over a year now there have been widespread reports of how Verizon Wireless would charged users $1.99 for data services, even if they have data services turned off.

This was happening sometimes to users with phones turned off or even batteries drained. The whole thing was incredibly questionable.

Verizon customer service folks insisted that the people in question clearly accessed the internet, but there were so many reports that they had not, that this response didn't fly.


 

Why Hasn't The Authors Guild Freaked Out About iPad Ebook Text-t...

Back in March, we pointed out how odd it was that the Authors Guild hadn't freaked out about the text-to-speech capabilities of the iPad, which would allow for ebooks to be read aloud.

Of course, this was the same feature on the Kindle which caused the Authors Guild to freak out about (with absolutely no legal basis), leading Amazon to make that feature optional.
