Last week, while speaking at a panel on social media, Facebook’s director of marketing, Randi Zuckerberg, poured digital napalm over the ongoing debate concerning online anonymity.

“I think anonymity on the Internet has to go away,” said Zuckerburg. “People behave a lot better when they have their real names down.

… I think people hide behind anonymity and they feel like they can say whatever they want behind closed doors.”

As Yahoo announces its second round of layoffs in two months, Google is announcing that it will be embarking on a hiring spree this year.

We first heard this morning from soon to be former CEO Eric Schmidt that the company will be adding 1,000 new employees in Europe.

And Google's SVP Engineering and Research Alan Eustace just published a post on the company's website announcing that the search giant will ramp up hiring to record levels in 2011.

It all makes sense now. At our TechCrunch Disrupt event a couple weeks ago in San Francisco, Google CEO Eric Schmidt took the stage to give an impressive speech across a wide range of topics.

But the most interesting thing he had to say what about automobiles.
